HVM Overberg – Branch

It is with great excitement that HVM is expanding its horizons to the Overberg. As of 1 June 2025, HVM will establish a branch in Hermanus called HVM Overberg. HVM Overberg will be the first subsidiary branch of HVM. Louisa Barnard will be the Managing Partner in the Hermanus office. We are excited to welcome her to the HVM and GMNI family.

Louisa grew up in the Free State and completed her studies at the Stellenbosch University. In 2006 she completed her Chartered Accountant articles in Stellenbosch. Shortly after she was appointed as the Financial Manager at a dairy business in the Overberg which brought her to Hermanus. Finances were always her passion, and she subsequently decided to start her own accounting practice. Over the past few years, the practice grew, and so the strategic partnership with HVM. Louisa was part of a Target shooting team that represented South Africa on a tour to Australia in 1998. She is still involved in the sport as a Coach and member of the Overberg School Sport Shooting Club. Louisa enjoys long walks on Grotto Beach and Sunday lunches with the whole family .

Parel Vallei Hoërskool – Fiela se Kind toneelstuk

Gedurende die week van 14 tot 17 April het Parel Vallei die toneelstuk Fiela se Kind opgevoer by die Playhouse Teater. Hierdie toneelstuk, wat deur die hoof van drama, Darryl Spijkers, gekonseptualiseer is, wys die toneelspel- en agterverhoogvaardighede van die graad 11 en 12 Drama klas.

Roslin Spiers het uitgeblink as Fiela Komoetie, saam met Francois Retief in die rol van Benjamin. Unathi Mankahla het aan die hoof gestaan van die lewendige musikale tussenspele in die vertoning, met Sarah Harris wat die rol van die studenteregisseur vervul het.

An unforgettable afternoon at Vergenoegd Löw: wine, games, and good company

The spirit of camaraderie was alive and well at our recent afternoon event, “Asemskep,” where colleagues came together to unwind, share stories, and enjoy the finer things in life. Held in a relaxed and scenic setting, the event featured a delightful wine tasting experience followed by a friendly (and slightly competitive) game of boules.

Guests were treated to a curated selection of local wines, each sip paired with laughter and conversation as participants explored new favourites. The tasting was led by an expert who shared notes on flavour and origin — making it both fun and informative.

As the afternoon sun lit up the boules court, teams were formed and the games began. Cheers and encouragement echoed around as everyone gave it their best shot. The casual competition brought out plenty of smiles and some unexpected talent!

GMNI Suid-Afrika

Die GMNI Suid-Afrika konferensie wat by Webersburg plaasgevind het, het ‘n waardevolle platform gebied vir betrokke firmas—HVM, Kempen en Griesel Nel—om die impak van nuwe wetgewing en tegnologie op die oudit- en rekeningkunde-bedryf te bespreek. Sentraal in die gesprekke was die nuwe nakomingsvereistes, naamlik FICA, die POPI-wet, en voordelige eienaarskap. Verskeie aspekte, wat spesifiek die SA Oudit en Rekeningkundige firmas raak, sowel as die gebruik van “artificial intelligence” (AI) en oor hoe almal tewerk gaan met belastingsperdatums en vennootrotasies op oudits en “reviews”, is ook bespreek.

Empowering Accounting Practices: A Day at Xero’s 2025 Cape Town Roadshow

On 21 May 2025, our accounting team had the privilege of attending Xero’s South Africa Roadshow at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC). This event brought together accounting professionals from across the region to explore innovative solutions, network with peers, and gain insights into the future of accounting. Representing our firm were three of our first-year trainees – Audrey Goosen, Markus Prinsloo, and Zach Steenkamp – alongside our senior manager, Zandrea Tredoux, who led the team through a day filled with learning and inspiration.

The event was not only informative but also enjoyable. Attendees were treated to additional performances and activities that made the day both educational and entertaining. The Xero 2025 Cape Town Roadshow was a valuable experience for our accounting team. It provided us with the tools, insights, and connections needed to enhance our practice and better serve our clients in an ever-evolving industry.

HVM Padel

Elke tweede week op ‘n Dinsdagaand verruil die personeel van HVM hulle rekenaars vir rakette by Avontuur of PadelX. Dis ‘n geleentheid om die personeel bymekaar te bring vir ‘n aand van pret, fiksheid en vriendelike wedywering.

Die kompetisie het ‘n dubbelspel-formaat waar spanne op die dag saam gevoeg word, hetsy ‘n gesoute of ‘n totale beginner. Dit is ‘n perfekte manier om verbintenisse te bou. Almal het ‘n wonderlike tyd, gevul met lag en ‘n kompeterende gees.

Die Padel kompetisie is ‘n kragtige herinnering aan die waarde van konneksie buite die kantoor. Dit gee die personeel kans om te ontspan, spanmaats te ontdek en kameraadskap te bou in ‘n energieke omgewing.

Bloemhof Golf day

On 13 March 2025, HMS Bloemhof hosted an unforgettable Golf Day at the Stellenbosch Golf Club. The course buzzed with excitement as we played all sorts of out of the ordinary games at our stands and laughter echoing in every direction. One unforgettable highlight? Smacking a marshmallow with a golf club – turns out those fluffy little things can really fly (who needs golf balls anyway?). Cue the shocked faces and uncontrollable giggles. The day was not only a fun escape from routine but also a fantastic way to bring the HMS Bloemhof community and the HVM community together. It was team spirit, sunshine and sticky-sweet chaos rolled into one epic event.

Parel Vallei Golf Day

Parel Vallei High School hosted a highly successful golf day at the absolutely beautiful Erinvale Golf Estate. The estate is one of the most picturesque sceneries in the Boland and False Bay regions. The golf course itself is a true representation of South African heritage having been designed by Gary Player, the legendary golfer.
